چکیده
Abstract Measuring the temperature below surface of a thermal barrier coating (TBC) using thin phosphor layer is challenging primarily due to absorption and scattering laser excitation light luminescence as they propagate through coating. One way increase could be use upconversion thermometry, which investigated in current study. It attractive because longer wavelengths reduces TBCs 8 % wt. Yttria-Stabilize Zirconia (8YSZ) generally has lower coefficients around 1000 nm than at 532 355 nm. Therefore, viability measure bottom TBC was evaluated for first time compared with more conventional downconversion thermometry. The work involved an experimental study several phosphors lanthanides doped 8YSZ host, were excited by pulsed 965 light. YSZ:Er,Yb YSZ:Ho,Yb show promise experimentally acquired optical characteristics used simulate propagation Kubelka-Munk theory. This evaluate signal strength excitation. Upconversion resulted greater from embedded much higher lifetime thermometry also improved sensitivity. Coupled reduced interference background impurities upconversion, it promising method measurements thermographic or underneath TBC.

Phosphor-Doped Thermal Barrier Coatings Deposited by Air Plasma Spray for In-Depth Temperature Sensing
Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-based thermal barrier coating (TBC) has been integrated with thermographic phosphors through air plasma spray (APS) for in-depth; non-contact temperature sensing. This coating consisted of a thin layer of Dy-doped YSZ (about 40 µm) on the bottom and a regular YSZ layer with a thickness up to 300 µm on top. A measurement system has been established; which include...

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) provide effective thermal barrier to the components of gas turbine engines by allowing higher operating temperatures and reduced cool‐ ing requirements. Plasma spraying, electron-beam physical vapor deposition, and sol‐ ution precursor plasma spray techniques are generally used to apply the TBCs on the metallic substrates. The present article addresses the TBCs f...
متن کاملMicrostructural investigations of EBPVD thermal barrier coatings
This paper deals with the morphology, constitutive phases and fine microstructures of some EBPVD processed yttria partially stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coatings. This study has been performed by X-ray diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It was shown that the coatings studied were constituted of a single metastable tetragonal t' phase, as expected if one refers...
متن کاملThermophysical properties of thermal barrier coatings
Thin layers of thermal barrier coating (TBCs) are applied to metallic components of heat engines to reduce metal temperatures and to provide environmental protection. This results in increased engine efficiency and prolonged operational life. Of special current interest is the use of TBCs in aircraft engines. The TBCs, often yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are deposited on nickel or cobalt-ba...
متن کاملDelamination of multilayer thermal barrier coatings
Multilayer thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) on superalloy substrates are comprised of an intermetallic bond coat, a thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer, and a porous zirconia top coat that provides thermal protection. The TGO attains a thickness of 1±10 lm prior to failure, while the bond coat and zirconia layer are each about 50±100 lm thick. The preferred method for manufacturing TBCs comprises ...
